A MOST AMBITIOUS JOURNEY by Canoe - PART II

Description

Who's the toughest of Coast to Coast? Steve Gurney and Steve Moffatt re-enact an historic trip from 120 years ago to find out. The first Coast to Coast athletes were George and James Park. In 1889 they dragged, lugged and paddled heavy wooden Rob Roy canoes, food and camping gear from Jacksons, up the Taramakau River, over Harper Pass, down the Hurunui River, down the coast to Sumner Beach. 330 kms in 13 days. Moffatt does it exactly as George would've. No Gore-tex or neoprene! Just an old blanket and oilskin. Gurney uses the latest equipment. What's our adventure heritage?
