New Use for Aluminized Kevlar
Written by Stephanie Park Thursday, 04 March 2010 00:00
At the Toronto Outdoor Adventure Show this past weekend, Swift Canoe introduced us to the first production of two new boats using their ‘Barracuda’ finish.
This aesthetically unique boat, the Osprey, utilizes Aluminized Kevlar as the outer layer of the hull layup. This gives the boat a distinctive silver appearance that sparkles in the sun and on the water.
Swift claims that there are no performance gains or losses in the use of the Aluminized Kevlar and it does not add any discernable weight to the canoe. In fact the canoe still comes in around 30 pounds.
You may recognize this shiny lightweight cloth from its more popular use by scientists wearing shiny heat protective suits as they collect data from atop active volcanoes. Paddling one of these new Swift canoes does not mean we can now paddle in liquid magma. Look cool on your local rivers and lakes with Swift’s Osprey.
