The Aries Group Company in India, constructed the longest snake boat measuring 144 ft. They manufactured it out of steel and it weighs a total of 8 tones. And you thought your Prospector was heavy!

“Inflatable canoes have a poor reputation but the recent rise of SOAR (Somewhere On A River) boats might change that,” says Ned Morgan, the managing editor of Mountain Life Magazine who went and tested a SOAR 14 inflatable canoe.

HCC Boatworx has just constructed their first Maitland River canoe in Kevlar, which has “unbelievable stability and tracks like a dream.” James Gjesing and his staff have been developing cedar strip and fiberglass canoes for years, but have noticed a shift towards Kevlar canoes.

Plan now to attend the 16th annual Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition held in Toronto this year from May 14th-16th 2010.  This is a competition that is open to colleges and universities to showcase their ingenuity in solving a difficult engineering problem – how to make concrete float.
