- I'm the new editor of Canoeroots magazine and I'm wildly passionate about canoeing. My husband and I recently spent 200 days canoeing the entire Canadian coastline of the Great Lakes - 4,000 kilometers from the Pigeon River on Lake Superior to Kingston on Lake Ontario.

Barron Canyon is an annual stop for me... did you get a chance to stop by High Falls for a swim in the natural pools? Wonderful place for day trips especially with the family...

My wife an I are planning on entering the 2011 Yukon River Quest - www.yukonriverquest.com/as a mixed tandem canoe.
Does anyone here have any previous experience or words or wisdom?
From what I understand, the race is difficult but an incredible experience...

If you haven't done this (I hadn't, believe it or not) river, you should. My new favourite river, by far.
We paddled from Benoit to Driftwood Provincial Park on the Ontario side of the Ottawa. With kids it was six days, five nights. Trailhead ran our shuttle up.
The water was record low, but still very fun. Tons of class II backferry rapids.
Ask questions, I'm so excited, I can't stop talking about the river.

Fiona Westner-Ramsay created a new topic Our Family Trip in Algonquin in the forums.
This forum has been looking a little quiet - I suppose we are just all out enjoying the paddling season instead of sitting on our computers!
We actually just got back from our family canoe trip into Algonquin Park's interior. It was Makobe's first trip - one that we have been looking forward to and working slowly towards for years. Makobe has autism. And so, with years of practice in the canoe, the use of visual aids and other strategies, we were able to have a very successful trip which included Makobe's very first portage.
We have shared some photos of our adventure on our facebook page here:http://www.facebook.com/badger.paddleshttp://www.facebook.com/badger.paddles
with a direct link to the album here:

Happy paddling everyone and thanks for letting us share our family fun!
