Stephanie Park replied to the topic Re:Kicker Quandaries ??? in the forums.Hi Bradley,
My friend is currently writing an article reviewing a small electric motor for the magazine, Kayak Angler and I thought that this electric motor may work for a canoe as well.
It's the equivalent of a 1hp motor. It's called torqueedo. Check out their website for more information: www.torqeedo.com

Stephanie Park created a new topic PalmerFest was a Blast! in the forums.Hi!
This year's PalmerFest, the whitewater weekend event that happens in Palmer Rapids, Ontario, on the May 24th long weekend was a big success!
Check out what some of the participants had to say:
"Thanks to you and your amazing team for another wonderful PalmerFest. The logistical genius of your crew boggles the mind with the magic they accomplish in the face of a "waterfall" of people descending in a
spring rush upon the Co-op and the river. The instructors' pleasure in sharing their passion with those of us who get ourselves all mucked up in rapids is amazing! Their patience and willingness to coach each individual at the level they need, shows
a level of pedagogical persistence and patience that any school board can only aspire to."
- Gail Cowling
"I had a great weekend at Palmer Fest. Thanks for a well organized event."

Stephanie Park replied to the topic Re:Attention all trail cooks in the forums.Hi Bradley!
I love spelt flour cookies! I'm not a chef but I love to make baked goods without a recipe...somethings work and others don't. One day I was experimenting with making brownies healthier and decided to add mashed kidney beans to the recipe...big mistake...my friends won't let me live that one down!
Anyways, what I do if I don't have a recipe is to make a small batch so you won't end up wasting too many ingredients. First, mix up your dry ingredients...then in a separate bowl mix your wet ingredients. And then, slowly pour your wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. You may need less or more wet ingredients depending on the texture of the dough.
My suggestion for quantities would be:
1 cup spelt flour
1.5 cups of oats
1/4 cup pumpkin seed
1/4 sunflower seed
1/4 choc chips
1/4 cup raisins
2 tbsp flax
2 tbsp coconut
1 cup brown sugar or maple sugar (maple sugar is an expensive substitute but doesn't induce acid reflux like other sugars. I remember reading a small book on the history of maple syrup in University and settlers noticed that it didn't give them "les brules d'estomach" stomach burn).
1 tbsp vanilla
2 tbsp molasses
1/2 tsp cinnamon
approx. 1/2 cup of oil and soya milk
It might or might not work...like I said... I make kidney bean brownies!

Stephanie Park replied to the topic Re:Cottage Septic Tank Pollution in the forums.Hi!
Very true. It's so important that we keep our freshwater clean for future generations. My husband and I have spent the past three summers canoeing the entire Canadian coastline of the Great Lakes. Check out our website:www.freshwaterdreams.ca
It makes us sad to know that point sources of pollution are cities and some cottage areas. According to Great Lake United, there are many areas/ecosystems of concern across the Great Lakes that are in trouble do to industrial pollution but also sewage as well. I think we need to invest in better infrastructure and sewage treatment plants, as well as look at the sources of pollution from cottages as well.
It's sad because we are the keepers and protectors of the world's largest source of available freshwater—the Great Lakes.
Keep it clean!

Stephanie Park replied to the topic Re:Night time lighting . . . ? in the forums.Hi Bradley!
I think it's great that you are thinking about bringing your girls a nightlight. Glow sticks like you said are a lot of fun. My friends who have kids purchased a Guyot Designs Firelfly which they love! It's an LED large-mouth waterbottle cap that fits on your Nalgene and glow nicely at night.
It's an option. Check out their website for more details: www.guyotdesigns.com
Happy Camping!

Stephanie Park replied to the topic Re:Anonymity in the forums.Forum abuse shouldn't be tolerated, just like abuse isn't tolerated in society. You bring up a good point about people being different in person than on forum chats.
I think it's important that we are able to express our own opinions and it's important to have good discussions about issues that are important to us. We are all grown up here. It's important that we (as grown ups) to refrain from using vulgarities and avoid name calling in any form.
I respect your anonymity. Thank you for bringing this important issue to light!
