Scott MacGregor replied to the topic Re: I met Paddle to the Sea, really. in the forums. That little carved Indian man changed my life, or at least shaped it enough. Canoeroots would not be today if not for that film.
Thanks Bill Mason.

Scott MacGregor created a new topic I met Paddle to the Sea, really. in the forums. When I was interviewing Becky Mason earlier this week, I put my coffee cup down on the table and right there was Paddle to the Sea. Really. The little man that changed my life. The very one. The star of the film.
My mom would drive my brother and I to school on snow days (she didn't want us tearing up the house). The teachers didn't have a lesson plan and would gather us together in the gym to watch National Film Board films. Paddle to the Sea was my favourite.
Fast forward 30 years or so, and I'm the founder and publisher of Canoeroots magazine, I'm sitting in Bill Mason's daughters living room, and rubbing shoulders with my childhood hero. Cool.

Is there any thing you've always wanted to ask her? I thought it would be fun to present here with some reader questions.
Fire away.

Scott MacGregor created a new topic Canoeing Lodore Canyon, Green River, CO in the forums.Just got back from the Green River.
I paddled it in a borrowed Esquif Spark. Great river. Lots of class III, perfect for open boating. Short of a couple rapids, I'm sure I could have ran this is a tandem, although not sure it is allowed. Anyone know?
The rafts carried our gear, it is the way to go. We surfed everywhere.
Look for a full feature and video in a 2012 issue of Rapid magazine, www.rapidmag.com.

Scott MacGregor created a new topic Lower Mad and Hass Hole Levels. in the forums. The Mad is running about 50CMS or so. Too low for Hass Hole which comes in at about 70 on the low end.
Palmer Rapids levels are pretty good, lots of eddies. The Lower is a nice level (although you can't access it without a snowmobile).
I'll keep you posted.

Scott MacGregor replied to the topic Re: Canoer or Canoeist? What are we? in the forums.I think I feel the same way.
Around here the locals say canoer, meaning guys like me, rather than hunters. Hey maybe that is where it comes from. In the Valley everyone hunts and therefore are hunters, making us canoers.
Anyway, I'm a canoeist.

Scott MacGregor created a new topic Do you like long road trips? in the forums. We just left Jersey Paddlesports 2011 yesterday at 5:30pm and drove home, arriving at 4:30am. I like it.
It is harder than it used to be to catch up on sleep, but I admit that I enjoy the road trip. I just dial up all my old truck'n tunes on my iPhone and put the hammer down.
How about you guys?
