DIY Lee Valley Paddle

The Lee Valley store, Ottawa hosted a paddle-making seminar this past Friday and Saturday lead by Lloyd Stonehouse.

cr1025-paddlemake2-400pxLloyd Stonehouse lead the 4-hour seminars showing participants how to size, fine tune and make their own paddle using simple hand tools. Lloyd has been making paddles since the early 1970’s and has been featured on televsion shows, Regional Contact and Midday as well as the Canadian Canoe Symposium in Merrickville, Ontario. He is considered to be one of eastern Ontario’s premier paddle makers and teaches his craft at both college, high school and private lessons.

 

Registration for the seminar was $90.00 and net proceeds will be donated to the United Way.

 

Participants had the choice of cherry, ash or maple in otter tail, beaver tail or voyageur designs. Hand picked wood blanks were provided by Handcrafted Canoes.
