Lower Mad Long Weekend

Surprisingly higher than usual water levels has struck Palmer Rapids on the Lower Madawaska River once again during this low water season.

According to MKC the levels on the middle section are also up on the Madawaska River. Under normal summer conditions due to a long standing agreement between MKC and Ontario Power Generation, that section of the river has regular scheduled releases Monday to Thursday  9:00AM to 3:30PM. This past week that part of the river has had 24-hour water since last weekend.

Rapid was on the Gatineau River in Quebec this past weekend for the annual river festival and out on the Ottawa River the past couple days. Both the Ottawa and Gatineau rivers are at the lowest water levels they've been at in years.

For a point of reference for Palmer Rapids the water levels right now are similar to the water levels at this year's Palmer Fest (for those who didn't make it to Palmer Fest that means the water level is great).

Looking for somewhere to paddle this weekend? Chances are Palmer will be pumpin and it might just be the place to spend the Labour Day long weekend
