VIDEO: Harvesting Wild Rice by Canoe

On canoe trips, while passing through the reedy-grasses next to shallow and sandy shorelines of inland lakes in Northern Ontario, I’ve often been surprised to discover patches of the wild rice grass. It seems to me, that wild rice would make a perfect edition to the evening’s dinner and would taste delicious alongside a freshly caught walleye or rainbow trout.

But how is wild rice collected? Well, this short video has some good tips on how to collect it yourself and it might just make for an interesting activity on your next late summer or early fall canoe trip, or perhaps it might add some excitement to a wind-bound day.
