Algonquin Park Canoe Route Clean Up Inspires International Event!

The fifth Great Wilderness Clean Up will take place this weekend during Mother’s Day Weekend from May 8th to 9th, 2010. This year, it’s a global event and will include groups from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Brazil helping to clean up wilderness areas from a main culprit: litter.

"We all do it. We sit around and complain about canoe route maintenance, ramble on and on about how the government should be doing more, question the mentality of those who leave all that garbage and toilet-paper mounds at the campsite, or scratch our heads over why anyone would leave just one sock at the end of the a portage", said Kevin Callan, author and avid canoeist and key participant in the event.

Eco-Heroes Go Mobile: Sierra Club Launches First iPhone App for Earth Day

As part of the lead-up to the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, Sierra Club is launching its first iPhone application to give users the ability to become an "Eco Hero" by pledging to do something green. Users will be able to see who is doing what for the environment with a map feature.

One Day Left: Save Precious Namakan River

The wild Namakan River, which flows between three protected wilderness areas (Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario, Voyageur National Park and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota) is being threatened by a series of hydro-electric projects. These developments will take place at High and Myrtle Falls, threatening prime habitat for lake sturgeon and recreatonal interests. Stop this development.
